  • ThredUp’s 2026 report draws on GlobalData research, including a survey of 3,268 US adults.
  • Its growth outlook is a forecast, not a measurement of Dubai’s resale market.
  • Clear condition descriptions and trustworthy item checks are central to the customer proposition.

A pre-owned garment arrives with a history. Its appeal may be the design, the price or the chance to find something no longer in stores. The retailer’s job is to make the important details of that history understandable enough for another person to buy with confidence.

ThredUp’s April 2026 resale report, developed with GlobalData, forecasts that the global secondhand market will grow twice as fast as the wider fashion industry over the following five years. Its research includes a survey of 3,268 US adults and a survey of 50 major US fashion retailers and brands.

That evidence needs a geographical boundary. A US consumer survey does not establish how many people in Dubai buy secondhand clothing, or what they are prepared to spend. The report is also issued by a resale operator with a commercial interest in the category. It is a useful international reference, rather than a local demand forecast.

The seller is a customer too

Dunes Bureau’s analysis is that a Dubai resale proposition should begin with the service it can consistently deliver. Condition descriptions should be specific, photographs should reveal wear and any claim about authenticity should match the checks performed. A statement of certainty is only useful when the business can stand behind it.

Sourcing deserves equal attention. Owners need to know which items a business accepts, how prices are set, what fees apply and when payment is made. Unclear terms can discourage good stock from entering the market, even if potential buyers are already interested.

The economics differ from selling a new collection in repeated sizes. Many pre-owned items are individual pieces, each requiring inspection, photography and a description. Labour, cleaning, storage and unsold stock therefore belong in the calculation. A high selling price does not automatically mean a strong margin.

Resale can give fashion businesses another reason to maintain a relationship with customers after the original purchase. Its value in Dubai will depend on reliable local execution: a fair experience for the seller and a convincing product for the buyer. International growth projections make the category worth studying; trust has to be earned item by item.
