Prices move first. Business consequences arrive later.
Major indices can reveal how investors are repricing growth, risk and financing. They are signals—not forecasts—and become useful only when connected to the decisions a business actually faces.

Falling equity valuations can make fundraising more dilutive and change the relative appeal of debt, private capital or delaying an investment. The index alone does not reveal a company’s borrowing rate—pair it with bond yields and credit spreads.
02
Demand and confidence
Sustained market moves can influence household wealth, executive confidence and discretionary spending. The effect is uneven: a broad decline matters differently from weakness confined to one sector.
03
Currencies and input costs
Regional market moves often coincide with changes in exchange rates. For importers, exporters and multinationals, currency translation can matter more to reported earnings than the headline index move.
04
Sector signals
An index may rise while most constituents fall if a few large companies lead. Check sector performance and market breadth before treating the headline as evidence of a broad economic change.
05
Liquidity and timing
Markets can reprice risk before it reaches operating results. That makes them useful early signals, but poor standalone forecasts. Confirm the move against orders, inventories, hiring and other business evidence.
Read each region in context
United States
S&P 500 · Nasdaq 100
A read on global risk appetite and large-company earnings expectations. Technology-heavy indices can also reveal how investors are pricing long-duration growth and financing conditions.
Europe
FTSE 100 · DAX
Useful for banks, industrial companies and exporters. Index composition and currency exposure differ sharply, so a move in London does not necessarily carry the same message as a move in Frankfurt.
Asia
Nikkei 225 · Hang Seng · Nifty 50
A window into export manufacturing, financial conditions and domestic demand across very different economies. Read each market on its own terms rather than treating Asia as one trade.
Dubai
DFM General Index
A local signal for listed banks, property and services. It can reflect domestic liquidity and confidence, but it is not a complete measure of Dubai or the wider UAE economy.
